{"id":1199,"date":"2019-08-22T14:21:08","date_gmt":"2019-08-22T13:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.inpulse.com\/?p=1199"},"modified":"2019-08-22T14:21:08","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T13:21:08","slug":"leadership-nugget-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thirteencreative.co.uk\/inpulse21\/leadership-nugget-2","title":{"rendered":"Energy &#8211; Leadership Nugget 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For the last 15 years I\u2019ve had the privilege of coaching leaders and managers often to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">help<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0with improving their performance which inevitably includes looking at how they communicate. In the day<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0that I coach a group of leaders I have to be at my best, fully present, fully focused, fully energised. I literally bring the energy for the day(s) we spend together as we learn better, remember more and have more fun when our energy levels stay high.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0second nugget<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in my short summer series of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nuggets of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">leadership\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">wisdom,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0relate<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to my coaching experiences and it<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s this<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">:<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2018<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">energy levels matter,\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in fact<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0they really matter!\u2019<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">leader knows that\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">they<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0need to bring vision and purpose<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0that they need to inspire and positively influence those the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">y lead<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">coalesce<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0around the vision and purpose and then\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">lead this group to the promised land of vision\/dream realisation!\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">And<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in my experience, this needs HUGE amounts of energy! Th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0energy literally becomes the driving force behind all that needs to be achieved and motivates\/inspires people out of inertia, indifference or just\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">plodd<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ness<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to move forward in a new direction. Where I have experienced it, th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0energy is palpable, you can \u2018touch and feel\u2019 it in the air and there is laughter, fun and focus. You enjoy the busyness but knowing that its actually leading somewhere. It literally transforms the organisation and acts as a form of glue that binds everyone\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to moving forward. It expresses itself in hope and optimism, a \u2018spring in the step\u2019 of those on the journey<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0an openness to new ideas<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0an ongoing enthusiasm that together we are going to make this happen.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I know this sounds to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0good to be true but trust me I\u2019ve experienced\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">this 5 times<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in my life, twice in corporate, twice in the charity sector and once in my own leadership (<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Inpulse<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0growing from 5-25 employees in 12months has required a huge amount of energy<\/span>[Symbol]<span data-contrast=\"auto\">). It was<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\/is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0as exciting as it\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">sounds<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and it\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">all\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">came from the energy reserves of the leaders I was following.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I was reminded about the importance of energy by a good friend I met for coffee recently. He works for the UK government on major change programmes and was making just this point \u2013 that a lack of energy from the leadership was significantly contributing to the changes not happening. The leaderships energy was focused elsewhere and therefore driving the change through had slowed in part as an interpretation from people that it was no longer important!
